Rodeo and Formula 707—for the Melvins, it’s a family affair

It’s the kind of testimonial every company loves to discover in the email bag: “The Melvins love Formula 707!” The Melvins of the Dusty Spur Ranch in Keller, TX include Katlyn, a seventh-grader; high school freshman, Marilyn; and Paul, a junior. The siblings have been involved in the sport of rodeo since about age 8 or 9, when they participated in youth rodeos. These days, as the young athletes hone their skills and excel in their respective events, the family has made Formula 707 an integral partner in their winning ways.

“We’ve tried a lot of vitamins”

“What are you doing with your horses? They look so good!” Questions and observations like these follow the Melvin clan, wherever they go. “So much of it has to do with the horses’ nutrition,” asserts mother Judy. “Their coat is shiny, they have great color and they’re performing really well; people notice that kind of thing and they want to know why. We tell ’em it’s Formula 707.”

For this mare, Formula 707s pellet products — specifically, Joint Essentials™ 5-in-1 with collagen and Pureform MSM™ (methylsulfonylmethane, a form of organic sulfur important for synthesis of vitamins and amino acids)—don’t end up in the bottom of the bucket, as did most of the powder nutritionals the Melvins previously used. The tasty, alfalfa-based 707 products bring her trotting to the trough, where she now eats “every bit of it!” As they say, the proof’s in the puddin’: Katylyn and Vanilla Sky were recent state qualifiers in barrel racing.

MarilynOlder sis Marilyn (right), a participant in pole bending, barrels and breakaway, was a state finals qualifier in the pole event this year. Astride her stallion partner, Firewater Frost, she also rode away with the finals average buckle and year-end high-point saddle with the aid of Formula 707. “Everyone asks how he holds that deep chestnut color; we believe it’s exceptional nutrition,” say the Melvins.

PaulBrother Paul (left) is a steer wrestler and calf roper. His string of steeds includes Platinum, a “19-year-old who runs like he’s 11,” and Bo, a “good-looking palomino.” Prior to 707, Platinum presented a swayback. Bo, who suffered from ulcers, often walked and kicked the fence line in “feed-me-first!”  fits at chow time; Gastro Essentials™ has helped him calm down noticeably. Not to be outdone by the females in the family, the hard-working young man has qualified for state finals in both of his events.

The Melvins ride horses that look good and work good. “The main thing,” summarizes the kids’ father, Marty, “is that Formula 707 makes great products that performance horses need. Your horse will eat it—clean it up—and it’s hard to find a vitamin you can say that about!”
